In 2006, Graduate School of Mathematics, Kyushu University, started the long-term (three months or more) internship program for Ph.D. students in the Functional Mathematics course of the doctorial program. In Japan, many faculties of engineering have internship programs under which third-year undergraduate students or first-year graduate students do internship of short period of two weeks (at longest a month) during summer break. The internship program given by Graduate School of Mathematics is completely new in the points that (i) first systematic approach by mathematics department, (ii) the length is there months or more. Many mathematics departments in Japan are paying attention to the internship program. Fourteen students of nineteen students who completed their internship got into companies, four of them are the same ones where they did internship. Several collaborative researches with companies derived from internships are now running (Nisshin Fire & Marine Insurance, Mazda, Nippon Steel).
